ChamonixA purpose built, high-altitude French resort, Chamonix is home to many challenging slopes in the Alps. The resort is located in the Haute-Savoie region of France. Chamonix is flanked by Switzerland, Italy and the mountain chain of Aiguilles de Chamonix. The Chamonix valley is situated amidst the highest mountains and Glaciers of Europe. The charming Chamonix town has always attracted multitudes of tourists, every year.

Host of the first ever Winter Olympics, Chamonix is popular among sports enthusiasts. The ski resort offers stunning views of the Mont Blanc, the valley and the tourist town. The cobbled streets, town square, ancient buildings, gorgeous rivers, pavement cafes, glaciers and the alpine charm captivates the tourists making the resort a much sought after destination in France.

Ski:

Chamonix area comprises a series of distinct resorts like Les Houches, Le Brevent, Grand Montets, Le Tour, Balme and La Flegere. Le Brevant and La Flegere are connected by lifts in Chamonix area. Chamonix has a wide variety of slopes that ensure a wonderful skiing experience for the tourists. Chamonix also ensures the best off piste skiing experience for the adventurous spirits.

The resort is situated at the height of 1,030 metres and has 75 runs. Expert skiers have both on and off- piste options to test their mettle. Snow conditions in the higher altitude slopes are excellent compared to that of the lower slopes. Chamonix offers skiing for all levels of skiers. The ski resort is also well equipped for night skiing episodes.

Do:

The terrain park, Snow Park in Les Bossons and a few jumps are ideally suited for pursuing snowboarding. The snow in Chamonix is perfectly suited for dog sledding, ice climbing, tobogganing, heliskiing and snowshoeing. Chamonix has an advanced sports complex that has an indoor ice rink for skating. The complex also has a climbing wall that simulates a mountain climbing experience.

Tourists can also pay a visit to the cinemas, after hours of exhausting activity in the resort. Bowling, paragliding, hang gliding, walking, parapenting, tennis, squash, et al are other significant activities that travellers can partake, in Chamonix. After endless hours of skiing, a visit to the Alpine museum can be an exciting and interesting experience.

Fun and family:

In Chamonix, the prominent ski school is the Panda Club that is situated in Argentiere. Children belonging to three years of age and above are allowed in the club. Children can pursue skiing, ice skating and tobogganing in the club. The non-skiing kids can enjoy the joy ride, the Aiguille du Midi cable car ride, from the heart of the town.

Dine:

The traditional French cuisine is served in the restaurants predominantly. International dishes find a place in the menus of a few restaurants. Chez Valerio, Sarpe, Atmosphere and Chaudron are the best places to dine in Chamonix.

Shop:

A wide variety of shops in Chamonix sell everything from local products like cheese, wine, traditional wood carvings, handicraft items, souvenirs to an array of other items. The Chamonix town centre has many shops like Patagonia, Peak performance, Chamsport, etc that sell a gamut of items.

Revel:

Tourists have a few excellent Apres Ski options in Chamonix in the form of some nightclubs and pubs. Micro Brasserie de Chamonix is renowned for lively music, good food and drinks. Café de la Terrasse and Le Choucas are other major places flocked by tourists, in search of a good nightlife. The clubs and pubs remain open till dawn in Chamonix. Casinos add charm to the nightlife in Chamonix.
