Kitzbuhel

KitzbuhelKitzbuhel, a world-famous ski resort in Austria is situated in Tyrol province, near Innsbruck. Lively Nightlife, challenging and diverse slopes and plenty of skiing and non-skiing activities make Kitzbuhel the winter entertainment capital of Austria. Architectural brilliance of the buildings in this scenic village is truly amazing. The ancient legacy of Kitzbuhel is apparent to the tourists from the central area of the town that is flanked by stone walls belonging to the twelfth century. The resort is a combination of historical charm and modern elegance.

Kitzbuhel offers diverse slope for the skiers in its sprawling skiing area that covers around 158 kilometres. There are 56 well maintained pistes. Expert skiers can enjoy about 30% of the skiing area that poses risky slopes and 30% of the skiing area offers plenty for the intermediates. Beginners can enjoy skiing through the gentle slopes that amount to 30% of the total skiing area in the resort. The remaining area is meant for professional skiers with black runs.

The ski schools in the resort enjoy good reputation all over Austria and the world. Snowboarders can experience some challenging trails at Kitzbuhel. Travellers can enjoy hot air balloon trips that offer a scenic view of the beautiful Alpine landscape of the resort. Ice-skating, sleigh rides, hiking, swimming, tennis, squash, saunas, snow shoeing and curling are other non-skiing activities.

The Kitzbuherler Horn Panoramic trail, an important attraction of Kitzbuhel is resplendent with natural splendour. Baroque style Johann Nepomuk chapel, St.Bernhard chapel, Plattenkapelle chapel, Veitkapelle chapel and Lindental chapel are prominent landmarks of the resort. The protestant church, St. Catherine's church, Romanesque Liebfrauenkirche and gothic Spitalskirche are other attractions in Kitzbuhel.

The statue of the land's defender that is sandwiched between the St. Nepomuk's chapel and an old hospital in Kitzbuhel is a significant landmark in the region. Pfleghof, Rathaus Kitzbuhel and Totensagra reflect the historic past of the resort.

Bergbahn museum provides an insight into the history of skiing for the visitors. The Farmhouse Museum is a Salzburg-Tirolean style building. The Farmhouse furnished before hundred years comprises old artifacts like tools and smoke kitchen, parlour, etc. Kitzbuhel museum displays a wide selection of exhibits that delight the beholders.

Kitzbuhel Alpine flower Garden, considered to be one among the beautiful gardens of Europe is situated at a height of 1,800 metres and can be accessed by the Hornbann mountain railway. The garden is home to around 120 different varieties of Alpine flowers.

Kupferplatte Caves ensure absolute fun and adventure for families visiting Kitzbuhel. The caves were used for mining copper in Kitzbuhel region 3000 years ago. 650 metres of tunnel can be explored through the mine train journey. The guided tour to the mine provides a lot of information on the mining techniques, tunnels and tools.

Must shop

Elegant boutiques, reputed handicraft shops and versatile shopping venues offer retail therapy for the compulsive shopping buffs. Anything from designer clothes to CD's can be bought at the shops in the resort. Tourists can buy gifts, memorabilia and every necessary item from Kitzbuhel.

Nightlife in Kitzbuhel has no closing time. An impressive lineup of restaurants, bars, dancehalls and casinos ensure that the nightlife is vibrant and lively. An atmosphere of fun and elation pervades in the clubs and discos till early hours in the morning. Tourists can dance, enjoy with friends and revel in the company of people in these places.
