The Republic of Hungary is distinguished in the Central European region as a landlocked nation of the Carpathian Basin. Hungary is a central point of European trade, scholarship and tourism. This country is today a prominent and an active member of OECD, NATO and EU. Hungarian is the national language of Hungary and is one of the four official languages of the European Union.
Hungary is at par with its cosmopolitan capital city Budapest that has emerged as one of the 15 most travelled tourist destinations in the world. Lake Hevíz is the second largest thermal lake in the world while lake Balaton is the largest lake in Central Europe, and Hortobagy is the prominent and largest natural grassland in Europe.
Another peculiarity of Hungary is that it is split into two by its famous waterway, the river Danube. Tisza and Drava are other prominent rivers of Hungary. World’s largest thermal lake, Hevíz Spa is situated in Hungary. Lake Tisza is the second largest lake in the Pannonian Basin.
Landscape
The landscape of the country is its attraction that draws tourists to this fantastically scenic resort. Half of its area consists of flat abd rolling plains of the Pannonian Basin. Its Little Hungarian Plain in the western region is the most important plain, like the Great Hungarian Plain in the southeastern area. Likewise the eastern stretch of Alps, Alpokalja in western portion, Transdanubian Medium Mountains in the central regions of Transdanubia and Mecsek Mountains and Villany Mountains in south constitute the rich geography of the resort. Irott-ko is its highest point in the Alps with the height of 882 meters. Clearly, there is a lot to climb.
Sights
The Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe, is an extremely popular tourist spot. Szechenyi Medicinal Bath is Erope’s largest medicinal bath, and it is must-visit destination for any tourist visiting Budapest. Budapest also has the famous Esztergom Basilica church which is another must visit tourist spot in Budapest, and is known for beng the tallest building in Hungary. Pannonhalma Archabbey is another famous tourist destination of Hungary situated atop a hill at a height of over 280 metres.
Culture
Hungary is famous for its musical tradition. Music is a deeply impregnated part of hungraian folk culture. The Great Hungarian Plain is famous for tambura music. Hungary has produced many internationally renowned composers, who have been streamlining its contemporary classical music, such as Gyorgy Ligeti and Gyorgy Kurtag.
Sports
Hungary is famous not just for its eclectic culture and pristine geography that attracts tourists. Hungary is also a fine sporting community, and is a major participant in the Olympic games, with a tally of over 460 medals. Swimming, water polo and canoeing are the famous water games a tourist must partake in Hungary. This country has the distinction to produce some of the best sabre-fencing athletes in the world, and a tourist can definitely take some lessons!
